Queen’s University Belfast was established by the Royal Charter in 1845 as Queen’s College, which makes it the UK’s ninth oldest highest education institution. In 1908, it became a full university. Today, Queen’s University is a member of the Russell Group and a recognized centre of education and research. Times Higher Education named it 8th in the UK for research intensity. The university is split into three faculties and 15 schools.
Queen’s University is known for its strong emphasis on employability. It runs the Degree Plus programme that recognizes work experience and extracurricular activities as part of a degree. It also organizes a number of career workshops where students can network with alumni and employers.
The university takes pride in its global impact. More than 15% of its 24,500 students come from outside the UK. It also has connections with 250 international universities, the strongest ones with counterparts in the USA, Malaysia, China, and India, as well as over 3,000 businesses around the globe.
The university established a number of scholarships for international students worth £1.5 million in total. It has up to 50% discounts for families attending the Early Bird Reward, Queen’s Loyalty Scholarships, scholarships for INTO students, as well as country-specific awards. Along with that, it offers industry-sponsored awards and prizes from Big Four companies.
