Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) has a rich and long history. It has England’s first medical school at the Royal London Hospital established in 1785 as its progenitor. Its roots can also be traced to three other historical colleges: Westfield College, Queen Mary College, and St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College. Today, QMUL is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of research universities and is home to 16,000 students, 25% of whom come from 150 countries.

The university is divided into several schools and departments that teach medicine, linguistics, Russian and East European languages, drama, dance and cinematics, and other disciplines. The Medical School features departments of infectious diseases, dentistry, cardiology, and surgery. In 2017, QMUL received silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

Queen Mary University of London offers a few merit-based scholarships for international student. Business and Management Undergraduate Scholarship (£4,000) is awarded to international students obtaining bachelors degrees in business and management. Global Excellence Scholarships are available to students entering with A*AA or international equivalent in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. International scholarships are also available to law, music, and medical students.

Overview

The university’s flagship campus is situated in Mile End in London’s east end. The location is known for a cheaper cost of living and access to numerous landmarks, shops, restaurants, bars, and other attractions. The Whitechapel campus and the West Smithfield campus at St Bartholomew’s Hospital are allocated for medical students.

The university provides around 2,000 rooms for students in the Westfield Student Village that is stretched across Mile End, Whitechapel, and Charterhouse Square. The flats are designed for 3-11 people, there are also en-suite options. Along with that, it has 100 rooms in intercollegiate halls. They ensure an excellent opportunity to interact with students from various colleges of the University of London.

Five, nine, and thirteen-week long pre-sessional English programmes help international students meet the university’s language requirements. They may also make use of in-sessional courses and modules.
