Located on the eastern outskirts of London, the University of Essex welcomes students since 1964. The university is known for one of the highest standards of teaching, which resulted in the Gold Award in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2017. It also in the top 30 according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide.

The university is made up of three faculties having 21 schools in total. It is most well known for such academic disciplines as Social Sciences, Humanities and Health. The University of Essex maintains strong partner relations with 18 institutions across the globe including Kaplan Open Learning, Kaplan Singapore, Portman NHS Foundation Trust, Tavistock and many others. Thanks to these links, students are able to obtain dual and double degrees with higher education institutes from Asia and Europe.

As an international friendly university, it welcomes students from all over the world. To help them meet their educational and career goals, it launched the Talent Development Centre providing various workshops and career advice. Scholarships and bursaries are also in place to help international and EU students cover part of their tuition fees. In particular, students can take advantage of International Baccalaureate Excellence Scholarship, Essex Global Partner Scholarship and Sports scholarships.

Overview

The University of Essex spreads its facilities across three campuses. The largest one is located in Colchester, the UK’s oldest city. The campus, surrounded by picturesque Wivenhoe Park, has undergone massive refurbishment to meet all the current needs of the student community. The university has recently opened The Causeway Teaching Centre with 15 new teaching rooms and seminar space. The second campus located in Southend-on-Sea welcomes medical students. In the near future, the university plans to expand the existing facilities and add some new ones including Nursing Lab and Therapy Teaching spaces. The third campus, in Loughton, borders the largest open space near London, Epping Forest, and is home to students. of acting All three locations are less than an hour from London

The University of Essex provides accommodation to all international students for the full duration of the study. Accommodation options vary through flats designed for up to 16 people with shared kitchens. About half of the rooms are en-suite. The quality of student halls is one of the highest in the country. The university won the National Student Housing Survey in 2009 and finished second in the two following years. 90% of international students are satisfied with the quality of housing. International students can take academic English language courses provided in autumn and spring. The courses cover a multitude of aspects from grammar to academic writing.
