Initially established in 1843 as Birmingham College of Art and turned into a polytechnic university in 1971, it gained the status of university in 1992. Birmingham City University is the city’s second-largest university. Conveniently placed not far from Birmingham International Airport and having railroad connection with London, Manchester, and other UK’s cities, the university is easily accessible for students from all over the world. Today, it welcomes 24,000 students from more than 80 countries.

 The university takes pride in its undergraduate courses, many of which gained professional accreditation including Acting, Accountancy, Education, Engineering, Law, Marketing, Nursing, Radiography, and Social Work. Creative and performing arts are also among its strengths. The Birmingham School of Design and the Birmingham Conservatoire (both opened in the mid-1800s) are still doing strong on the UK’s higher education market. Birmingham City University was the first higher education institution in Europe to provide a Black Studies undergraduate degree to study the history of Africa and its people.

The university features eight campuses and schools. In recent years, it has invested more than 340 million into ultra-modern facilities including biomedical science labs, mock operation theatres, crime scene rooms, and more. As an international student, you may take advantage of pre-sessional English courses aimed at gaining the necessary level of English. The courses last from six to sixteen weeks.
