The University of Birmingham was established in 1900 to present a novelty model in teaching. It became the first among England’s civic universities to enrol people regardless of their background and religion. The University of Birmingham continues implementing innovations in its modern teaching and research activities. It is the founding member of the Russell Group of research universities and Universitas 21, an international network of leading research universities.
The university is organized into five colleges offering over 350 courses in total. The educational process is designed the way to help students think outside the box and gain practical experience. Students can benefit from working alongside the greatest minds in the fields of their studies. Work placement and career-related support throughout the entire period of study are also in place.
The university’s student community has more than 22,000 undergraduates and 12,000 postgraduate students. They represent over 150 countries. The academic staff is multinational as well – more than 30% of faculty members came from overseas, which makes the university a truly multicultural community. An array of region-specific scholarships for International students is available to help them cover – partly or fully - the cost of their study.

Overview
The University of Birmingham occupies a 276-acre campus combining green areas and modern facilities. It sits just outside the centre of Birmingham. The campus provisions a 50-metre swimming pool, a modern library, an abundance of dining options, and everything students may need for their academic and social experience. The university’s own train stop can quickly connect students with the centre of Birmingham. The youngest city in Europe (40% of its population is younger than 25) successfully combines modern infrastructure and historical heritage. It is less than two hours from London by train, and the International Birmingham airport connects the city with the rest of the world.
International undergraduate freshers are guaranteed to get accommodation for the duration of their first year in the university. All university-owned halls of residence are less than 1 mile from the heart of the campus. 70% of rooms are en-suite.
